15 States to Adopt Bihar’s Model for Issuing Children’s Health Cards
Bihar has set a benchmark in child healthcare by emerging as the top-performing state in India for issuing health cards to children through Anganwadi centers. Inspired by its success, 15 other states are preparing to adopt the “Bihar Model.”

Bihar’s Leading Performance
According to the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Bihar has issued health cards to over 46.29 lakh children across 55,232 Anganwadi centers. Of these, 37 lakh children are actively using their health cards to access government health and nutrition schemes.
The cards record vital information such as the child’s health status, vaccination details, nutrition levels, and growth monitoring, ensuring better care and tracking of child development.
Bihar at the Top Nationwide
Bihar accounts for a remarkable 46.09% of all children’s health cards issued across India, placing it far ahead of states like Tamil Nadu (33.79%), Maharashtra (35%), and Gujarat (20.01%). Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh also remain behind in comparison.
States Showing Interest
Encouraged by Bihar’s achievement, states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan have shown interest in replicating this successful initiative to improve child healthcare and scheme delivery in their regions.
