Bihar Ahead of Southern States in Supporting Working Women: NCW Survey
A recent survey by the National Commission for Women (NCW) has revealed that working women in northern states receive significantly more family support compared to their counterparts in southern India.
According to the report, women in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh enjoy the highest levels of cooperation from husbands and family members, while states like Telangana continue to lag behind.

In Bihar, 91.6% of husbands, 95.8% of parents, and 89% of in-laws support working women. Similarly, in Madhya Pradesh, 85% of husbands, 96.4% of parents, and 86.4% of in-laws extend their cooperation. In sharp contrast, Telangana records much lower support: only 52.3% of husbands, 58.3% of parents, and 41% of in-laws.
Rural Bihar Sets an Example
Interestingly, the survey highlighted that rural Bihar performs even better than its urban areas. Nearly 95% of husbands and 91% of in-laws in rural households support women’s professional engagements, marking an encouraging sign for women’s empowerment in the state.
Telangana Lags Behind
On the other hand, Telangana paints a worrying picture. Only 46% of urban women reported receiving support from husbands, with rural figures even lower. Parental and in-law support remains minimal, with just 59% parental backing and 41% in-law support.
