The mystery of a shipwreck that had been puzzling researchers for decades in the depths of Lake Michigan, USA, has finally been solved.
Researchers have discovered the remains of the ship “Irving”, also known as the “Ghost Ship”, which had vanished nearly 140 years ago. According to the Wisconsin Historical Society, the shipwreck was found about 35 miles from Milwaukee at the bottom of Lake Michigan.
The ship, carrying 280 people, was a small passenger vessel. It sank in October 1878 after a collision with another ship during a heavy storm. Since then, it had remained missing, with no confirmed sightings for over a century.
The wreck was finally located by a team of divers and underwater archaeologists using advanced sonar technology, a project that began in the 1970s.
The discovery of the Ghost Ship has solved a 140-year-old maritime mystery, providing closure to one of the region’s most famous shipwreck legends.
