The number of rhinos at Patna Zoo ranks second in the world and first across India. At present, there are ten rhinos in Patna Zoo, including six males and four females. This makes Patna Zoo the top in the country for rhino count.
Why Patna Zoo Became a Breeding Center?
The successful rhino breeding program at Patna Zoo was recognized by the Central Zoo Authority in 2019, making it an official rhino breeding center. Under this program, rhinos are bred naturally and through scientific practices, with young ones cared for meticulously. This effort has made Patna Zoo a model for others in India.
Currently, with 10 rhinos, Patna Zoo is among the leading centers worldwide. The population has been rising consistently, thanks to a systematic breeding plan and enriched habitat.
History:
The journey of rhinos in Patna Zoo began in 1979, when a pair of rhinos was brought here from Assam.Due to this success, Patna Zoo is now considered one of the best places in the world for rhino breeding and conservation.
