Patna will soon begin its own Water Metro service. The Bihar Tourism Department and Inland Waterways Authority of India signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Patna is among the 18 Indian cities selected for developing modern urban water transport systems. The goal of this project is to enhance Patna’s transport facilities and promote eco-friendly water-based transportation. This will also provide a boost to tourism and ease traffic congestion.
Modern vessels similar to those used in Kochi’s famous Water Metro service will operate in Patna. These boats will be equipped with advanced safety, navigation, air-conditioning, and health facilities for passengers. The fleet will include two catamaran-type double-decker vessels, each capable of carrying 100 passengers.
Passengers will be offered all modern amenities including seating, air-conditioning, and medical support. This service is expected to make city transport easier, safer, and more environment-friendly.
The initiative is seen as a landmark step toward modern urban infrastructure in Patna, making it one of the first cities in North India to launch such a service.
